(RAW Rating: 3.5) - Love or Money, February 9, 2007
Reviewer: The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com) - See all my reviews
Twenty-one year old Lena Harper is living her dreams. Her occupation as a professional escort allows her to afford the finer things in life. Declaring her independence from her parents, she is free to pursue this lavish lifestyle she truly loves. Then she meets Rasheed Graham who invokes feelings in her which causes her to consider making some changes. But it seems her love for money has a stronger pull than the emotions pulling at her heart. Struggling with the decision to give up her career or confess the truth to her man on the hopes he is accepting, she finds herself caught in the middle.

Cassandra Daniels' second self-published novel, CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE conveys a very strong message to young women who exploit themselves for financial gain. The ending of the book is rather shocking but the point is clear. The book was riddled with grammatical, typographical and formatting errors and there is no clear cut indication when the scenes change which confused me throughout the book. The message in this book is one that all young girls should receive and I think that with thorough editing and a new release, this author will have a jewel on her hand.

 DECEPTION!, December 31, 2006

Being the only child to successful parents, Lena Harper was use to getting anything she wanted and attended private schools and shopping sprees. Now at 21, Lena is enrolled in collage and strives to be the independent student but feels smothered by her parents. Moving away from them was the only way she could gain the freedom and independence she needed to show them that she was now old enough to make her own decisions.
Once on her own, Lena continued to crave for the rich flavor of money, but now she also has another strong craving...sex! What better way to feed both her desires than to run her own personal escort service where she would be both employer and employee! Unknown to her parents and few friends, she was gainfully self-employed, making a ton of money and having sex without getting personally involved with any men.

Business is booming, Lena continues her collage education while putting money aside. While hanging with her friends Shauna and Tammy, Lena meets sexy Rasheed and is swept up in a serious relationship with him. Rasheed has fallen in love with Lena, and begs her to be honest with him as his previous relationship fell apart because of secrets and lies.

She moves in with him but Lena does not heed Rasheed's warning; she maintains her secret life, taking risks as she sneaks out to service her customers, never wanting to give up her secret loves; sex and money.

After a vist to the doctor Lena has to decide which is most important; sex and money or her life! Will Lena come clean about her secret life? Will Rasheed see her for who she really is? Or is he so "in love" he can't see straight?

Cassandra Daniels is a new name that will be moving forward with her novel "Caught In the Middle". Taking on a bold subject; Cassandra's story brings to the forefront deception, secrets, and lies. With the dreaded disease looming and a murder twist that will have you saying "Oh sh**..."readers are going to like this one.

When I first started reading this novel it seem just ok. But as the plot thickened the characters came to life on each page, pulling me deeper into the story. The character Lena was well written... Lena was a mean selfish bitch! What do you call a woman who gives herself to no-one? She's not even honest with herself let alone with her friends. I felt pain for Rasheed. Yes he really loved Lena, but then I had to ask myself was he stupid or is love REALLY blind? I wanted to know a little more about Shauna .

A few editing issues to iron out but I like this novel. I'm looking forward to reading more of Cassandra's work.

I edit insurance and test manuscripts daily and I can tell you right now, they're boring. If I had the choice, I'd edit African-American fiction books like these. I love to read stories from a young perspective, and from the sample chapter I read, it would be a delight to curl up and finish this book. Even though the point of the story is dark, the author has a great hand on how young people talk, act, and think. Sometimes when we grow up, we forget that...but not her. The only con I have for this author is that there are several times when verbs go from past to present tense. But the character development and dialogue are what I concentrate on, and this author has that down!

Featured Article called "Decided I was a Writer" found on unheardwords.com 31 July 2005 about Cassandra Daniels

When do people decide they've crossed the line from writing to writer?  What's it really like to self-publish?  This personal article by Cassandra Daniels, author of 'Together Again', provides us with some answers to these interesting questions.

It was the summer of 1998 and I was living with my mother in Jackson Mississippi. We had just had an argument and like every other lovelorn teenager, I started writing in my diary about how my life was and how mean my mother was. For the record, neither statement was true but that’s how I felt.

Instead of venting my emotions, I started writing what at the time seemed like a short story about a fictional girl named Jesse Loften. I began to think about what she’d been going through. I added parts of my personality, hopes, fears, and nightmares I’d experienced whilst living in the South. Then I stopped writing and didn’t think about it or write another word.

Six months later, I began to write more about Jesse. I realized I was increasingly thinking about where she went and what she had seen. Soon I wrote chapter one, two, three, and four. When I got to chapter six, I started to wonder why I was writing and asked myself where it had come from. Then I stopped writing again. Jump to February 2001. I’d finished the book, Jesse Loften was now named Whitney Johnson, and the novel was entitled ‘Together Again’...
